Sugar Land Dive Center's MSDT Prep program is designed for instructors who want to expand what they can teach, build confidence in teaching specialty courses, and create more continuing education opportunities for their students.

MSDT Prep / Five Specialty Instructor Courses: $600
Individual PADI Specialty Instructor Training: $150 per specialty

The MSDT Prep option includes instructor-level specialty training, standards review, specialty course organization, teaching practice, and coaching for up to five selected PADI Specialty Instructor ratings.

Individual Specialty Instructor Training is available by arrangement for instructors who only need one or two specific Specialty Instructor ratings.

Not included: PADI Specialty Instructor application fees, payable directly to PADI for each specialty applied for.

Continue Toward Your PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer Rating

The PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating recognizes instructors who are committed to continuing education and qualified to teach a wider range of PADI specialty courses.

MSDT Prep helps you add Specialty Instructor ratings and strengthen your ability to teach specialty-level training. The MSDT rating itself is applied for after you meet all PADI requirements, including earning at least five PADI Specialty Instructor ratings and certifying at least 25 PADI divers.

Prerequisites

To enroll in MSDT Prep / Specialty Instructor Training, candidates must be one of the following:

A certified PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor
A PADI IDC candidate completing Specialty Instructor training as part of an instructor development pathway

Candidates must also meet the prerequisites and experience requirements for each selected Specialty Instructor rating. Some specialties may require prior diver-level certification, logged dive experience, or additional training before application.

PADI Fees

PADI Specialty Instructor application fees are not included in the SLDC course fee and are paid directly to PADI for each specialty applied for.

Specialty Instructor Application Fee: $96 per specialty applied for

Candidates applying for five Specialty Instructor ratings should plan for PADI application fees in addition to the SLDC course fee.

MSDT Prep and the IDC Pathway

MSDT Prep can be added to your PADI Instructor Development Course pathway if you want to begin your instructor career with additional teaching credentials.

For IDC candidates, this training is usually completed in connection with your IDC schedule or shortly after the Instructor Examination. For current instructors, MSDT Prep may be scheduled by arrangement.
