Course Overview
Boat diving opens the door to many of the best dive sites in the world. Reefs, wrecks, walls, drift dives, liveaboards, and many destination dive trips are commonly accessed by boat. The PADI Boat Diver Specialty Course helps certified divers become more comfortable, prepared, and confident when diving from different types of dive boats.
Different boats have different procedures. A small inflatable, a day boat, a charter boat, and a liveaboard may all handle entries, exits, gear storage, surface procedures, and safety briefings a little differently. The PADI Boat Diver Specialty helps divers understand those differences and learn how to adapt to the boat, crew, site, and conditions. Course listings commonly describe this specialty as useful for learning how to enter and exit the water from boats, stow gear properly, follow boat etiquette, use lines, and manage common boat-related concerns such as seasickness.
At Sugar Land Dive Center, this course is a great fit for divers who plan to join local dive trips, international group travel, liveaboards, or resort boat dives while on vacation. It is especially helpful for newer divers who want to feel more relaxed before stepping onto a dive boat, setting up gear, listening to the briefing, and entering the water with confidence.
This specialty is also practical because boat diving is part of real-world diving. Knowing where to set up your gear, how to move safely around the deck, when to enter, how to return to the boat, and how to follow crew instructions makes the entire dive day smoother and safer.

Course Prerequisites
To enroll in the PADI Boat Diver Specialty Course, divers need to be at least 10 years old and certified as a PADI Junior Open Water Diver / Open Water Diver or hold a qualifying entry-level certification from another training agency.
Because this course is designed for certified divers, students should already be comfortable with basic scuba skills, buddy procedures, and standard open water diving practices. The goal is to build confidence and comfort specifically around boat diving.
