Course Overview
The PADI Delayed Surface Marker Buoy Diver Specialty course teaches one of the most useful safety skills a diver can learn. A DSMB helps mark your location before or during ascent, making it easier for boat crews, surface support, and other divers to see where you are. This is especially valuable when diving from boats, diving in current, completing safety stops away from a fixed line, or traveling to destinations where DSMB use is expected.
During this two-dive specialty course, you will learn how to prepare, deploy, and manage a DSMB and reel or spool system while maintaining buoyancy and control underwater. You will practice proper line handling, mid-water deployment, controlled ascents, and safety stop procedures using the DSMB as a visual reference.
Many divers own or carry a DSMB but have never had formal training in its proper use. This course gives you hands-on experience under the guidance of a PADI Instructor so you can feel more comfortable using this important piece of safety equipment in real diving situations.
At Sugar Land Dive Center, we focus on practical skill development, small class sizes, and confidence-building instruction. The DSMB Diver Specialty is a great addition to Advanced Open Water, Boat Diver, Drift Diver, Deep Diver, and Rescue Diver training.
