Course Overview

The PADI Seal Team is an action-packed scuba program designed especially for kids. It gives young divers the chance to use real scuba equipment, breathe underwater, and complete fun underwater AquaMissions in a pool under the supervision of a PADI Professional.

The Seal Team program is a pool-based experience for young scuba divers who want to complete exciting AquaMissions. The program goes beyond basic scuba skills and can introduce kids to fun underwater activities such as using dive lights, taking underwater photos, practicing buoyancy, learning navigation, understanding environmental awareness, and more.

This is not an open water certification course. Instead, it is a fun and structured introduction to scuba diving for children who are not yet ready, or not yet old enough, for the PADI Junior Open Water Diver course. Kids can begin PADI scuba experience programs at age 8, while the PADI Junior Open Water Diver certification begins at age 10.

At Sugar Land Dive Center, the PADI Seal Team is a great way for kids to build confidence in the water, learn basic scuba safety, and experience the underwater world in a controlled pool environment. It is also a fun option for families who want to introduce children to scuba before committing to a full certification course.

What Kids Will Learn

During the PADI Seal Team program, kids will learn and practice basic scuba skills in a fun, age-appropriate way. Skills may include:

  • How scuba equipment works
  • Breathing underwater
  • Clearing water from a regulator
  • Clearing a partially flooded mask
  • Equalizing
  • Using underwater hand signals
  • Swimming underwater with scuba equipment
  • Buoyancy practice
  • Safe behavior around scuba gear and the pool
  • Teamwork and buddy awareness

The program is built around short, fun underwater missions instead of a traditional classroom-style course. Each mission helps kids gain comfort, confidence, and excitement about scuba diving.

AquaMissions and Master Seal Team

The first part of the program includes AquaMissions 1–5. After completing these missions, children become PADI Seal Team members. The revised PADI materials also include 15 Specialty AquaMissions, allowing kids to keep learning and work toward the PADI Master Seal Team level.

Specialty AquaMissions may introduce fun themes such as buoyancy, navigation, wreck diving concepts, environmental awareness, underwater photography, and other kid-friendly underwater activities. PADI's public Seal Team course page highlights specialty AquaMissions, including wreck diving, navigation, buoyancy, environmental awareness, dive lights, and underwater photography.

Course Prerequisites

To participate in the PADI Seal Team, children must be at least 8 years old, comfortable in the water, and have a parent or guardian's approval. No prior scuba diving experience is required.

This program is ideal for kids who enjoy swimming, are curious about scuba diving, and are ready to learn in a safe, supervised pool setting.

Who This Program Is For

The PADI Seal Team is perfect for kids who love the water and want to try something exciting, active, and different. It is especially good for:

  • Kids who are not yet old enough for Junior Open Water Diver
  • Children who enjoy pool activities and underwater games
