As an IDC Staff Instructor candidate, you receive direct mentorship from a Course Director who actively conducts PADI Instructor Development Courses and works directly with instructor candidates.

This is an important advantage for IDC Staff Instructor training. You are not simply completing another professional rating — you are learning how instructor candidates are developed, evaluated, mentored, and prepared for success. Training directly with Phillip allows you to see the instructor development process from the Course Director's side and better understand how to support future PADI Instructors.
 

What Is the PADI IDC Staff Instructor Course?

The PADI IDC Staff Instructor Course is the next professional-level step for PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainers who want to become more involved in instructor development. This course provides experienced instructors with a deeper understanding of the PADI Instructor Development Course, the evaluation process, candidate counseling, and the role of staff instructors in professional-level training.

During the course, you will learn how to help mentor instructor candidates, evaluate teaching presentations, assist with IDC training, and support candidates as they prepare for the PADI Instructor Examination. The course also strengthens your own teaching ability by helping you understand how instructors are trained, evaluated, and coached.

The PADI IDC Staff Instructor Course fee includes the PADI IDC Staff Instructor Crewpac. Candidates who did not complete the revised PADI IDC or who do not already have the revised PADI IDC Digital Crewpac may be required to purchase the current PADI IDC Digital Crewpac. Phillip will confirm any additional material requirements before enrollment.

Course Prerequisites

To enroll in the PADI IDC Staff Instructor Course, candidates must meet PADI prerequisites, including:

  • Be a renewed PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be an active Emergency First Response Instructor
  • Agree to use the PADI System and conduct PADI programs according to PADI Standards and philosophy
  • Be fit for diving and meet any required medical statement or dive fitness requirements

 

To qualify as a PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer, a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor must have issued at least 25 PADI certifications and earned at least five PADI Specialty Instructor certifications.

Schedule Options

Sugar Land Dive Center schedules IDC Staff Instructor courses in conjunction with every PADI Instructor Development Course. This allows IDC Staff Instructor candidates to observe, audit, assist, and practice within a real IDC environment.

IDC Staff Instructor courses may also be offered on demand when appropriate. If you complete your IDC Staff Instructor course on demand, you may return to audit or assist with a future full IDC at Sugar Land Dive Center. This gives you the flexibility to complete your training on your schedule while still gaining valuable experience alongside future instructor candidates.
